Practically all important chart elements (peaks, troughs, breaks, etc.) are accompanied with sharp increase in volume. The indicator of Volume Rate of Change shows how quickly the volume changes. Source http://codebase.mql4.com/2292

The performance of the indicator can be seen well on 5 min FT, in my opinion. If you draw a line though 0.0 level of VROC, everything below the line would be a period of inactivity - low volume - mostly sideways trading. Once VROC jumps above 0, there is an action coming.

We can use, an trend indicator to tell us where the dominant trend is, for example, 50 SMA and based on where the price is in relation to that SMA (above or below), we can react to VROC signals as it jumps above 0 to initiate a new trade.
